John Cusack starts out the movie getting dumped. Right there
the film identifies with everybody in the entire world excluding maybe
Elizebeth Hurly. He starts right away with the "Ferris Beuller's Day Off"
style of talking to the viewer. Cusak runs out of the door screaming at
his deserter while explaining to me what is happening. He then goes on
to explain his "top five breakups of all time" which he ties throughout
the entire movie. Connecting everything to top five lists Cusack tries
to oversimplify the abstract world of relationships into a
matter-of-fact type structure. This movie is hilarious. Go rent it. Also read the
book "About A Boy" written by Nick Hornby who also wrote High Fidelity.
